In 1992, writer and director Nick Hennegan started The Maverick Theatre Company in England. As a writer and then director, he soon realised someone would need to look at contracts and funding, find the talent and work to fill the seats of their new pub venue, so before he knew it - he was producing! As a new producer, he tried to find some help. There was none. No books, no courses, no information about what a producer should do.
Fortunately, things have improved. Now Nick has a Masters in Creative Producing from the University of London and has made over 100 productions, from small-scale community shows to middle and large-scale touring nationally and internationally and working in the West End. He has won a number of awards including a Bursary from The Society of London Theatre's Stage One. He has worked with many actors and creatives, from inexperienced children to West End stars like Sir Derek Jacobi. And this website is designed to help you avoid the frustrations Nick encountered and share your experiences too. It will be a one stop shop for those creating theatre.
